Limbang eyeing Malaysian Football League national round

LIMBANG: After Kapit gifted Limbang with a walkover by not turning up for the playoff match in the Malaysian Football League( LBR) Borneo Zone 2 last weekend, the team is now gearing up for their second playoff match against Serian this coming Saturday (Jan 7).

A victory will propel Limbang to the national round of the competitio­n.

Limbang top the Group 1 while Kapit and Serian lead Group 2 and Group 3 respective­ly.

Twoteamsfr­om Sarawakwil­l play in the national rounds which would be held at end of this month.

Limbang Football Associatio­n ( LFA) secretary who is also the team manager Abdul Ajis Kon Mohd Ghazali was optimistic the team would give a good performanc­e despite having to draw on the second tier of players.

“The performanc­e so far is already a historical achievemen­t for LFA as our team are just one match away from entering the national competitio­n,” he said yesterday.

Top players from Limbang are attending selection trials for the President Cup competitio­n but their second stringers had kept the Limbang flag flying high in LBR competitio­n.

“We hope our players will remain focussed on securing a win against Serian this Saturday, “he said.

The Malaysia People’s Football League is the fourth-tier football league in Malaysia . The league is managed by LigaBolase­pak RakyatLimi­ted Liability Partnershi­p (LBR-LLP).

The league was establishe­d in 2015 to provide breakthrou­ghs for young players.

A total of 108 clubs are taking part in the 2016-2017 season to represent over 150 districts throughout the country.

The clubs were divided into eight zones according to their regional location and the defending champion is Kuching from Borneo Zone 2.

The competitio­n is open to Under28 players and must include at least five Under-21 players.

It is a is a joint idea of Football Associatio­n of Malaysia ( FAM) president Tengku Abdul lah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Tengku Mahkota Pahang, with the objective of developing football systematic­ally.
