- By James Ling reporters@theborneopost.com

KAPIT: Kapit Division is still short of medical officers ( MOs) with just 13 serving here at present.

The Kapit Health Clinic has seven MOs, while there are two MOs respectively at the Song Health Clinic, Belaga Health Clinic and Sungai Asap Health Clinic.

The Kapit Health Clinic also has one family doctor and one specialist.

“Hopefully we can get more MOs to come. Each year there are so many new graduates,” said Ministry of Health’s Family Health senior director Toh Puan Dr Safurah Jaffar during a briefing here on Wednesday.

“Vacancies in Kuching, Serian, Sarikei and Sibu are all filled up.

“If they (new graduates) want to work, there are vacancies in Kapit.”

According to Kapit Health Clinic statistics, there were 57,063 outpatients registered along with 31,887 maternity and child clinic patients.

Meanwhile, Dr Safurah advised patients to strictly adhere to appointment times.

“Don’t cause congestion in the morning. Clinics must introduce standard appointments and stick to them. I advise the patients on referral to specialists or medical officers to visit the clinic strictly adhering to the appointment day and time to avoid overcrowding or congestion.

“If your appointment is at 10 am, then come at that particular hour. Let’s say one hour waiting time to see the medical officer. So no point to rush to come at 8am, you have to wait for three hours. You can do something else before your turn,” she said.

Dr Safurah and her entourage also visited the Song Health Clinic and Belaga before returning to Kuala Lumpur.
