AIR, AMTEC sign MoU for waste water treatment industry

PUTRAJAYA: Aliran Ihsan Resources Bhd (AIR Bhd), a subsidiary of MMC Corp Bhd, yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with Advance Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) to explore the viability of developing a membrane technology system for the wastewater treatment industry.

AIR was represented by its director, Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, and chief executive officer Adam Saffian Ghazali while AMTEC was represented by UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar and AMTEC Director Prof Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail.

Chief Secretary to the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, who witnessed the signing ceremony, said the MoU would allow both parties not only to evaluate and explore business ties but also find advanced membrane technology solutions for water and wastewater treatment.

He said that the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant that was developed by AIR and AMTEC, using the reverse osmosis membrane technology, at a glove manufacturing factory in Senawang proved to be a commendable effort.

“The plant which was commercialised on Nov 1, 2016 is in line with the government’s 11th Malaysia Plan to focus on water management, reducing water consumption from 200 litres to 180 litres per person by 2020,” he said.

Che Khalib said the first such plant in Malaysia was able to reduce water dependency from state water agencies and existing water sources to be channeled to other sectors.

“The RM1.7 million plant recycles one million litres of industrial wastewater daily, enabling companies to enjoy higher profits as it saved costs up to 30 per cent,” he added.

Che Khalib said AIR recently bagged the second wastewater recycle project for glove manufacturers and hoped other industries would emulate the same technology. — Bernama
