PRS Julau members solidly behind Salang to defend seat in GE14

-

SIBU: All members of Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) across the Julau constituency remains solidly behind their parliamentarian Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, says the Pakan branch vice- chairman Tuai Rumah Jantan Uchong.

He affirmed that Salang also commanded great support from those in component parties under the state Barisan Nasional ( BN).

He described the MP as being ‘a very humble, hardworking and very approachable people’s representative’.

“For us, there is no sane reason to have him ( Salang) replaced – we’re all for his re-nomination to defend Julau.

“We are totally confident that he will deliver it again for BN in the 14th general election (GE14).

“It is understandable that some people may have their own agenda in wanting him out – the reason could be personal or that they have been incited by certain quarters,” he told The Borneo Post here recently.

Jantan’s remarks came in response to a recent press statement by local community leader Tuai Rumah Janin Ungking, who said Julau was no longer a ‘safe seat’ for BN.

Describing the statement as ‘erroneous’, Jantan said Janin’s observation was only based on the performance of the BN candidates for Pakan and Meluan during last year’s May 7 state election.

“Such performance (in Pakan and Meluan) should not be the yardstick for Julau, as far GE14 is concerned.

“To be fair, Rolland (Duat Jubin) was a newcomer, but he had fared exceptionally well to eventually win Meluan seat. Tan Sri William Mawan too had faced problems – his Teras party was outside BN then. However, Pakan voters were very mature and they chose him to be their elected representative,” he said.

Jantan said as far as Julau was concerned, there had never been any ‘bad blood’ between the state BN component parties

“The BN spirit that endorses unity and harmony remains intact,” he said.
