-

SIBU: The town’s transformation over the years has allowed the local healthcare industry to keep up with the changing needs of the people seeking medical attention here. Rejang Healthcare Centre managing director Dr Peter Tang believes that as the world is changing, so too are the roles of doctors.

“They must always upgrade and improve their skills and knowledge in order to deliver better services to the people.

“Nevertheless, Sibu is so much better now than during time some 30 years ago. Today, we have the technology and resources to ensure the delivery of better services to the people,” he said at the opening of a specialist clinic to be managed by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Wong Yie Dee at the centre here yesterday.

Dr Wong graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2004 and was posted to Sibu Hospital as a medical officer at the Orthopaedic Department, where he served till 2009 before pursuing his post- graduate training at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) in Kuching and later, at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Upon receiving his postgraduate qualification, he was posted to the Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and was gazetted as an orthopaedic surgeon.

After one- and- a- half years in Sabah, he returned to Sibu Hospital and was appointed the head of the Orthopaedic Department – a post that he still holds today.

Dr Wong is also an adjunct lecturer to the medical faculty of SEGi University College, teaching Fifth Year medical students.

His special interest is in the areas of arthroplasty ( surgical reconstruction or replacement of joints) and trauma cases.

“I believe that with his vast experience and skills, Dr Wong will do his best for the patients,” said Dr Tang.
