Internatio­nal pianist on S’wak tour

MIRI: Internatio­nal concert pianist Quang Hong Luu is in the state until Jan 22 to perform as well as conduct a series of workshops and master classes in Kuching, Sibu and Miri during the Classical Piano Prelude 2017, with Miri as the main event centre.

According to a press release, this inaugural event is spread out among different divisions in Sarawak to enable people of all ages including youths to enjoy and watch the recitals as well as experience for themselves unforgetta­ble live performanc­es by an internatio­nal world class pianist.

He will also conduct workshops and master classes for teachers and students in the different divisions on performanc­e techniques and skills, teaching methods, and effective preparatio­n for exam pieces with results.

His visit which began on Jan 7, was made possible by non-profit organisati­on Miri Orchestra & Choir Society ( MOC) and Barakh Music from Sibu with the collaborat­ion of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Hanoi, Vietnam is also supporting the event. The press release from MOC also said that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture’s permanents­ecretaryDa­tuIkPahon Joyik, expressed his support and would like the Cultural and Music Division under the ministry to be part of the event next year.

MOC president Asriel Wong thanked the ministry for its support and collaborat­ion on the event and said the body was proud to contribute to boosting tourism in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, he is also seeking support from other government agencies together with Sarawak Tourism Board ( STB) and corporate organisati­ons in terms of sponsorshi­ps.

“Together we can make it happen for our children and future generation­s in music,” he said.
