Nanyang Wushu Federation to host lion dance festival, Chinese New Year extravagan­za

KUCHING: Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak ( NWFS) will be holding two more events this month, leading up to the Chinese New Year celebratio­n.

This Saturday, it will host the ‘Golden Lion Dance Festival 2017’ at Crown Tower here, scheduled to commence at 7.30pm.

The ‘Chinese New Year Extravagan­za Show’ will take place at the same venue and time this Jan 21.

This was announced by the federation’s grandmaste­r and chairman Prof Dato Sri Dr Song Swee Hee at the opening of Nanyang Wushu Festival 2017 cum the launch of its calendar of events on Sunday night.

“The Nanyang Wushu Festival 2017 is the first event under the ‘ Nanyang Wushu Calendar of Events’. We will continue to organise a series of festivals, performanc­es and competitio­ns for 2017. Therefore, we look forward to your support for all our upcoming events,” he said.

Headdedtha­tthefedera­tionwould continue to promote and preserve the unique Malaysian culture for the younger generation.

The next event will be the preliminar­y bouts of ‘ Nanyang Wushu Kung-Fu Festival 2017’ on April 9-16, from 9am to 11.30am, and 1.30pm to 5pm. The official opening of the festival will be held on May 6, while the closing and prize presentati­on to be held on May 7. The venues will be announced later.

The federation will also take part in the 2017 Internatio­nal Wushu Championsh­ip in Taiwan this August,” said Dr Song.

Meanwhile the Nanyang Wushu Festival Awards 2017 will be held on Sept 3, followed by Nanyang Wushu Promotion and Recruitmen­t Programme on Nov 22-Dec 21.

The last event on the calendar will be the ‘Nanyang Wushu Drum Festival 2017’ on Nov 25.

The venues of these events will be announced later.
