Police cripple RM3m drug processing, trafficking syndicate
JOHOR BAHRU: Police crippled a syndicate involved in drug processing and trafficking with the arrest of 11 individuals and seized various types of drugs worth RM3 million in eight raids in Johor and Selangor last Monday.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said those arrested during the raids were nine men and two women aged between 29 and 63.
“Eight of the suspects were picked up in seven locations in Johor Bahru and Kulai, while three others, in Taman Pinggiran Subang, Selangor.
Following the arrests, police also discovered the existence of an Eramin Five drug processing laboratory and its packaging factory in Johor Bahru,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
He said among the drugs seized during the raids were 7,460 Eramin Five pills, 312 ecstasy pills, 90gm of ganja slab and 102kg of chemical substance.
Also seized were RM55,346 in cash, 11 vehicles, jewellery, luxury watches and drug processing machines.
“We believe that the syndicate had bought the machines from Taiwan and Singapore and that the machines were used to process Eramin 5 pills for distribution in Singapore, Indonesia and also local markets,” he said.
Mohd Mokhtar said three of the suspects had previous criminal records related to drugs and the police were in the midst of tracking down other members of the syndicate.
All suspects had been remanded for seven days to facilitate further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Mohd Mokhtar also said that over the first five days this month, 3,050 individuals, 2,969 of whom were locals, had been arrested for drug- related offences nationwide with drug seizure totalling RM4.64 million. — Bernama
