KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s passing was indeed a very sad day for all Sarawakians as he was the best chief minister the state ever had, says Kota Samarahan Municipal Council ( KSMC) chairman Dato Peter Minos.

He said Adenan was honest, sincere, clean and a straight forward person and had fought for all in Sarawak, small or big, urban or rural. Nothing compared to Adenan,” said Minos here yesterday.

He disclosed that he knew Adenan since 1974.

“I have not met any person who is as good and as sincere as Adenan. So simple and unassuming. Through thick and thin I was with him. When he was in Kuala Lumpur for treatment for weeks, my children and I were with him each day. That time he was down politically but I was with him as a good friend,” Minos said.

Minos added that during the time when Adenan was in the political wilderness, many people avoided him.

He said he remembers Adenan as a man who really tried to do his best for his state Sarawak and its people in his own way.

“I wonder if there will be another leader in Sarawak who can emulate Adenan although we hope there will be one. Everyone in Sarawak knows that Adenan cared. He had empathy and feeling for all in Sarawak, regardless of race, religion, or culture. He used to say publicly ‘I am CM for all Sarawakians, not just for the Malays’.

“Adenan fought very hard for Sarawak as a whole. He wanted all the powers and rights of Sarawak as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 be given back to Sarawak from the federal government.

“Now that he is gone, it is very sad. I miss Adenan Satem. I can now recall my prayers at his hospital bed for him at National Heart Institute ( IJN) Kuala Lumpur for days in 2013 when he was very sick and politically down.

“I remember campaigning for him in 1979 at Muara Tuang, eating with him at his garden house at Kpg Sindang in Kota Samarahan and plucking fruits at his garden and giving him books which we both liked.

“Missing you a lot CM Adenan I can only say this: rest in peace in heaven and one day we will meet again. Thank you so much for the friendship and warmth and for meeting and befriending and on the first place,” added Minos.
