‘Federal-state cooperation will not be dampened’
KUCHING: The co- operation between the federal and state governments will not be dampened with the demise of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
The demise of Adenan would also not affect the projects to be carried out in the state.
Giving the assurance, Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the state was progressing well and the federal government would continue to give uninterrupted support and allocation.
“Sarawak is progressing and developing very well and the federal government will give uninterrupted support, while projects will also continue to be carried out..the federal government will always give undivided support to the next chief minister.
“We ( federal government) will continue to work together with the state government,” he told reporters yesterday when met at Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya, here to pay his last respects to the late Adenan and his family.
Liow, who is MCA president, stressed that the co- operation between the state and federal governments has long existed and must be continued and enhanced whoever becomes the next chief minister.
Meanwhile, he described the late Adenan as a leader who has a positive strength and energy, and has laid a strong foundation for the state.
According to him, the late Adenan was a farsighted leader, and has led by example worthy to be emulated by other leaders.
“He was a moderate leader who cared for the people, had led by example and a person of positive energy and strength worthy for us to emulate..the spirit of Adenan will lead us for a very very long time,” he said, adding that Adenan was not only a state leader, but a national leader.
Meanwhile, former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu said the people were happy to note that Adenan during his short tenure as chief minister has been fighting for Sarawakian’s rights and restore the state’s rights as stated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
Extending his deepest condolences to the family, Jabu said Adenan was a very good man and very dedicated leader who cared for the state and people regardless of religion, colour and race.
“We would like to see his (the late Adenan) policy continued for the sake of political stability, progress and prosperity for our people,” Jabu said.
