‘Adenan had been doing things his way’

-

SIBU: Sibu Volleyball Association (SVA) president Dr William Ting Wei Ung says the passing of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is a great loss to all Sarawakians.

He described Adenan as a true Sarawakian who championed the rights of all Sarawakians right up to his last breath.

“His exemplary act is hard to follow and tough to find. We hope that whosoever succeeds him will continue to rally the call of Sarawak for Sarawakians,” he added.

Ting said Adenan was a learned person who was very committed to bringing back the state’s autonomy through negotiation instead of confrontation with the federal government.

“He had his ways of doing things and thus far, it had been on track and most of his election promises were carried out, especially his contribution towards the Chinese community.

“Unfortunately, he did not have the chance to see the dividends from his good work,” Ting lamented.

Ting said SVA had also intended to appeal to Adenan for financial aids to fund the construction of Sibu Volleyball Stadium but it was all too late now.

Sibu ‘ snake king’ Lai Lee Siew remembers Adenan as a caring and a very friendly person when he came here to attend the annual dinner of the local association early last year.

“I had a chance to sit down with him and had him sign an autograph for me. That was a very poignant moment which would be deeply carved in my mind.”

Lai described Adenan as a very assertive person who had always listened to the people.

“During his short reign, he had brought progress, peace and stability to the state and we hope that his successor will continue with his legacy for the betterment of the state.”
