MIRI: People from all walks of life and from different religious and racial background paying their last respects to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem at Masjid Jamek in Kuching and his burial at Samariang Muslim Cemetery show that he, his leadership and policies, are all loved by Sarawakians.

Bernardine Lawrence, a housewife from here who happened to be visiting her daughter in Kuching, joined thousands of people paying their last respects to the chief minister at the mosque and his burial in Samariang.

“The crowd was already large when we arrived at the mosque at 8.45am. It is a very touching scene and it shows that he is well loved by the people. Adenan was the chief minister for everybody regardless of their racial and religious backgrounds,” she said in a conversation.

“His demise is a great loss to the state and its people for he had done a lot during his short period as chief minister. People loved Tok Nan because he was humble, friendly and approachable person. He was the telephone best chief minister that Sarawak has ever had,” said her daughter, Jolynn Justina John.

Jolynn said they would not want to miss paying their last respects because they wanted to show their love and thanks for what he had done in the three years he was in office.

“We are going to miss his trademark shout … hu ha and u … u which is now viral in social media.

“No one will be able to fill his shoes. I hope the next chief minister will continue his policies and what he has done and achieved so far,” she said.
