Bring them to book — Riot

-

SERIAN: Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem wants the authorities to bring to book those individuals who posted defamatory comments regarding the passing of the late chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem on Facebook.

He said such comments were an insult and insensitive to the feelings of Adenan’s family members as well as to Sarawakians and fellow Malaysians who mourned his sudden demise last Wednesday.

“By posting defamatory comments on Tok Nan, this showed they have disrespect for a leader who is well loved by people in the state. Therefore, I agree if stern legal actions are taken against them,” Riot said.

Riot, who is also Serian MP, said this to the media after he officiated at a ‘Light a Candle Programme’ as memorial for the late Adenan at Taman Komuniti Serian on Saturday night.

As of Saturday, 40 reports have been lodged in 12 police districts regarding alleged defamatory postings on the passing of the late Adenan, with investigations being conducted on seven of the reports.

At least five individuals including civil servants and a secondary school student have since been arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, some 500 people braved the heavy rain here to attend the memorial organised by Bidayuh Artistes and Musicians Association (Bama).
