Word of Mouth 7 returns this Friday

-

KUCHING: Word of Mouth KCH, Kuching’s only spoken word event, is back with their seventh instalment this Friday (Jan 20), 8pm with a line-up of 18 performers, their highest number so far.

Word of Mouth 7 ( WoM7) will feature poets and spoken word artistes interpreting the theme ‘ Diary’. It is an event that is organised once every two months by local group Wordsmiths of Kuching (WoK) in order to spread awareness and revolutionise the way people think of poetry, prose and literature. According to WoM7 curator Allison Jong, each show operates on a specific theme and this challenges performers to write pieces that are out of their comfort zone.

“The word ‘diary’ isn’t merely a word associated with journals or a log book. To these poets and spoken word artistes, it is a recollection or reminiscences of past emotions,” she said.

The audience can expect a show where some performers will get up close and personal.

“It will make you laugh, cry, empathise and relate,” said Jong, adding that the line-up includes both past performers as well as a good number who are performing for the first time.

Word of Mouth KCH is a platform on which local poets and spoken word artistes come together and display their ability to employ and manipulate words and language into poetry verses, prose and story-telling.

Previously, they have tackled themes that include joy, secrets, dramatic events and environment. Their performers range from secondary school and university students to working adults, brought together by their love for words. WoM7 will start promptly at 8pm and is hosted by HAUS KCH, Jalan Capital Garden. Formerly police flats, HAUS KCH is now a hub for creative and community activities.
