PRS Youth, SDGA and DCCI, are working together to find ways to accommodate our unemployed nurses through joint venture with Econ which has two medical centres in Malaysia, namely in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, and seven medical centres in Singapore.

KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) Youth, Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) and Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( DCCI) are embarking on a joint venture project with Econ Medicare Centre and Nursing Home Sdn Bhd (Econ) to provide employment opportunities for unemployed Dayak graduates with nursing diplomas or degrees.

PRS Youth chief Snowdan Lawan said the leading one- stop integrated healthcare provider in the eldercare services and nursing home sector in Singapore, Malaysia and China had expressed its hope to recruit some nurses from the state in line with its expansion programme in Malaysia.

“This is a piece of good news for our Dayak nursing graduates, many of whom are unemployed due to factors such as the private colleges they studied at may not

be accredited with the Ministry of Health, making it hard for them to find jobs at government hospitals.

“As such, PRS Youth, SDGA and DCCI, are working together to find ways to accommodate our unemployed nurses through joint venture with Econ which has two medical centres in Malaysia, namely in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, and seven medical centres in Singapore,” he told a press conference at PRS headquarters here yesterday.

Snowdan, who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman, said one of the reasons Econ was expressing its interest in employing nurses from Sarawak was due to their good communication skills.

“Apart from that, Econ in its letter addressed to me, also stated that they were made to understand that most Sarawakians are multilingual and that they are able to converse in English, Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia and others.”

As such, Snowdan called on Dayak nursing graduates who wish to take up employment with Econ to register their interest with PRS Youth, SDGA or DCCI.

SDGA president Dr Dusit Jaul also welcomed the joint venture with Econ as this meant that there would be an immediate avenue for Dayak youths to be gainfully employed in the healthcare industry.

“This is relevant to those who have undergone basic training and school leavers who have the desire to go into the healthcare industry because Econ has also mentioned in their letter that they are willing to train those interested to join the industry.

“Econ even mentioned that their team was also willing to come over to Sarawak to conduct walk-in interviews at a date and time to be decided later,” he said.

This, he said, was a golden opportunity for Dayak youths especially unemployed nursing graduates and school leavers, and urged them not to miss out.
