Westerners love getting divorced, says Leon Lai
HONG KONG: Singer Leon Lai, 50, is still smarting from his divorce from model Gaile Lok nearly five years ago.
That’s evident from his remark on The Jin Xing Show on TV that “Westerners love getting divorced.”
Leon was probably alluding to the fact that his US-born wife was so westernised that it led to the collapse of their marriage.
TV host Jin Xing had asked him about his past relationships.
On whether the break-ups were due to societal pressure, Leon asked, “Which one are you talking about?”
( Taiwanese actress) Shu Qi, said Jin.
Retorted Leon: “Why did you mention Shu Qi?”
Jin explained, “I really, really like this girl. You two were perfect together. How long were you guys together?”
Leon did not answer the question directly.
On model Gaile Lok, who was his wife from 2008 to 2012, Leon said he still believes in love. “If I don’t believe it anymore, then I might as well go become a monk. You definitely have to sacrifice when it comes to love. That is what love is. If you don’t sacrifice for it, the other person won’t either. I still believe in fate, and I will cherish it when it comes.”
On what kind of lady he is seeking, Leon said: “It really doesn’t matter. One day, we will all get fat. We can’t just focus on looks. But no more westerners. They like getting divorces too much.”
