Direct your grouses to project consultant – Lo

-

KUCHING: Residents affected by the ongoing construction work at Jalan Stephen Yong and Stephen Yong Link are urged to contact the project consultant for solution to their problems.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said the correct person to find or to direct their complaint to was the engineer,Lee Shiuh Yeh, who could be contacted at 019-8899961.

He also advised the affected residents to go to the right people should problems arise in the course of construction and not to the opposition or private investigator to solve their problem.

“The opposition or private investigator cannot solve the problem for you,” he said after helping to mediate in a dispute between the contractor and a property landowner from Kampung Sudat at Padawan Municipal Council ( PMC) meeting room yesterday.

Lo, who is also PMC chairman, also made clear that the upgrading of Jalan Stephen Yong and Stephen Yong Link, from two lanes to four lanes, was not their project; it belonged to Public Works Department.

“So please don’t point fingers at us for not taking care of the people affected by the project.

“Yes, the project is in our area of jurisdiction, but we are not the implementer,” he said.

Lo believed that JKR, consultant and the contractor had responsible officers to deal with the public should there be any misunderstanding arising from the implementation of the project.

He said if there was any damage to private properties, the contractor would have to make good as it was part of their responsibilities, and also one of basic conditions outlined in their contract.

Lo believed that the project, worth about RM38 million, would result in smooth traffic flow along the road once completed.

The upgrading of Jalan Stephen Yong and Stephen Yong Link is not part of the Pan Borneo Highway. The project is scheduled for completion in August.
