Contractor resolves Kpg Sudat road upgrading case

-

KUCHING: The issue concerning the property of a Kampung Sudat resident said to be affected by the upgrading of the Jalan Stephen Yong link road project has been resolved.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said the contractor involved has agreed to build a retaining wall and repair the house cracks allegedly caused by the project.

He said the contractor has even replaced the house’s septic tank, even though it was actually on state land reserve.

“There shouldn’t be any issue here as the contractor had agreed in principle to do any repair works on the damage caused by them. But the owner was a bit impatient and went to the opposition and the media to highlight the grouses.

“Anyway, the case is as good as solved today as the consultant and contractors have given their assurance that they will be fully responsible for any damage their work has caused,”

Lo said after a meeting with representatives from the Public Works Department, consultant, contractor and the property owner concerned yesterday.

The owner, whose house is by the roadside in Kampung Sudat, very near to the border of the state land reserve, had claimed that he and his family were unable to use their toilet and kitchen since Christmas due to the roadworks nearby.

He had called for foundation reinforcement work. The owner also claimed the house had begun to tilt and that the rainy season could further erode the structure of the house.
