Registration now open to Architect Run for Community 2017

-

KUCHING: The Architect Run for Community (ARC) 2017, organised by Malaysia Institute of Architects Sarawak Chapter ( PAMSC), is open for registration.

According to organising chairperson Leong Pik Shia, the run will be flagged off from the Square Tower, Kuching Waterfront on March 19 at 6.30am.

“The run is divided into men and women categories, with running distances of five kilometres and 10 kilometres.

“Registration fee is RM50 per person. The registration forms can be obtained from Brooks, Green Heights Mall. Registration can also be done online via the ARC 2017 website at www.gritevent. com/arc-2017.

“Deadline for registration is Feb 19,” she told reporters here yesterday, adding that this is the fi rst time PAMSC is organising a charity run.

“Our main objective is to raise funds for local charities like Hope Place, Society for Kuching Urban Poor (Skup) and Barefoot Mercy.

“Other objectives are to promote our upcoming Building Trade Show ( BTS) 2017, which will be happening from March 24 to 26, and increase awareness of the architect profession,” she informed.

Grit Event Management founder Awang Saifeluddin said the route will be quite unique to the theme of architecture.

“To show how important architecture is and to instil interest for architecture, the run will pass several historical buildings and areas of interest, such as Square Tower, General Post Office, Sarawak Museum, Kpg Ajibah Abol and Main Bazaar.

“Every participant will be entitled to a specially- designed tee- shirt by Ultron, while those who finish the run will get a special fi nisher medal. There are also attractive lucky draw prizes to be won,” he said.

Main sponsors for ARC 2017 are EcoSteel Sdn Bhd and United G I Products. Co-sponsors are Kaisu ( M) Sdn Bhd, Titan ( Sarawak), L& C Globalniaga, Guocera Marketing, Mapei Malaysia and Goodrich Global.

PAMSC chairman Mike Boon said the run is different from what PAMSC usually does.

“We have charity-related events every year, but usually in the form of a gala dinner. This year we tie in with things the public can relate to in order to create awareness and show that architects have social responsibility to the community,” he said.

He added that other events lined up before their annual general meeting in April include a Chinese New Year gathering with industry partners on Feb 10 and a public design lecture on Feb17, in addition to BTS 2017.
