KUCHING: Members of the public can now register for the ‘ Let’s Rebuild St Teresa Charity Run’ via a newly-launched online registration portal designed by LEA Sports Centre.

The charity run is jointly organised by SMK St Teresa parents-teachers association ( PTA) with LEA Sports Centre and City Joggers Club ( CJC) as the main supporting partners.

Flag- off is at 6am this April 7 at the carpark of the school.

The event aims to raise funds for rebuilding SMK St Teresa assembly hall, which was burned down on Oct 29 last year, as well as for the construction of a new academic block.

There are two categories for the run – the 1.5km and 5km for both men and women.

Participants aged 18 years and below require parental or guardian consent, while those below 12 must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.

The online registration portal www.rebuildstteresarun.com is packed with information on the charity run such as frequently asked questions, rules and regulations, runner’s T- shirt design, details on the ‘race pack’ collection, the route map and SMK St Teresa’s brief history for reference.

According to PTA chairman Thomas William Suip, the run is expected to attract more than 4,000 runners.

“We hope to collect at least RM60,000. The cost of the rebuilding is RM8.2 million, and so far we have received RM1.6 million, including RM1.5 million from the state government.

“We would like to rebuild the much-needed three- storey assembly hall as well as a new administration and classroom block. The first phase of the project will be the classroom block, expected to be completed by the year- end, while the school hall is expected to be completed at the end of 2018 or early 2019.

“We hope more people would support our rebuilding effort. The participation fee for the run is RM60, but everyone is welcome to contribute more,” he told reporters at a press conference yesterday.

The online portal allows payment up to RM2,000, so those wishing to donate more can submit extra contributions in addition to the RM60 fee.

Closing date for registration is March 8.

The race pack can be collected at CityOne Megamall exhibition hall this April 1 and 2, from 10am to 6pm.

Besides the online portal, registration forms may be obtained at selected LEA outlets across the state and also at SMK St Teresa’s general office during office hours.

Direct contribution via cheques by any corporate or individual party can also be made to the PTA in the name of ‘ Persatuan Ibubapa Guru SMK St Teresa, Kuching’ ( account number: L11701004081 — Hong Leong Islamic Bank).

Other supporting partners for charity run are Etika Holdings Sdn Bhd, Revive Isotonic Drink as the ‘Official Hydration Partner’, Nestle Products Sdn Bhd with Milo and Cherrios Breakfast Cereal as the ‘Official Energy and Nutrition Partner’, and Facelook – a chain of beauty stores under GSM Department Stores Sdn Bhd.

Also present at the press conference were SMK St Teresa principal Mary John and LEA Sports Centre senior operations manager Poh Siok Hoon.
