Petra Jaya team launches donation drive for victims of Matang murder-fire incident

KUCHING: The ‘ Pasukan Bomba Komuniti Petrajaya’ upon hearing of the Matang murder-fire incident was quick to respond though on a different take by launching a donation drive at the Petra Jaya fire station.

The community team’s coordinato­r Abe Mat welcomes donations such as clothing, food and everyday items to aid the surviving victims of the incident which include a three-year-old boy and a one-year- old girl.

“We will hold this drive until Jan 26. Let us all come together to aid the victims of this unfortunat­e incident,” Abe told The Borneo Post yesterday.

As of yesterday, several members of the public had come forward to the station after learning of the drive on Facebook which was posted by Abe on his page ‘ Nasi Kerabu Abe Mat’ on Jan 22.

In his post, Abe said the seven surviving victims were left with only the clothes on their back after their house was razed by an afternoon fire which is believed to have been started by a 42-yearold man.

“Let us all help generously and sincerely. We will be sending all the donations which we have collected to the victims by this week,” said Abe.

Meanwhile, the fire station yesterday was also abuzz with both members of the public and the community team handing the donations to the victims.

Among the items being collected which were directly handed over to the victims were food items, clothing and cash donations.
