BN Tanjong Datu election operations room reactivated for by-election

KUCHING: Santubong MP Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has directed the Tanjong Datu election operations room to be revived to face the by- election that will be held on Feb 18.

Wan Junaidi, who is also the director of operations for the byelection, said the approach that would be used in the by- election would be similar to the one used during the last state election in Tanjong Datu.

“We are preparing to revive all the operations room that we used during the last state election for Tanjong Datu when I was also the director of operation.

“The model that we used was successful and we will use it again for this by- election,” he told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

He said the approach that would be used included having a secretariat in main town Lundu as well as having smaller operations rooms in all the polling districts in Tanjong Datu.

Wan Junaidi said all Barisan Nasional Sarawak component parties PBB, SUPP, PRS and SPDP would be involved in the operations rooms.

“The representatives of the component parties were with me in a meeting in Lundu yesterday (Sunday).”

Wan Junaidi told reporters on Sunday that he would be submitting three names endorsed by PBB Tanjong Datu to PBB president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday but declined to disclose the names of the candidates.

“Whoever that is chosen, we will be 100 per cent behind the chosen candidate. We will not have a second opnion on the candidate chosen by the president and headquarters.”

Wan Junaidi said if PBB Tanjong Datu branch leaders have other candidates in their minds, they should be passing the name(s) through him to be submitted to Abang Johari.

During the meeting with the BN component parties’ representatives on Sunday, Wan Junaidi also asked them to submit to him, if any, the unfulfilled projects that were pledged by Adenan.

Despite all these preparations, Wan Junaidi called on the opposition parties not to contest in the by- election as a show of respect and recognition to Adenan and his contributions.

The Election Commission ( EC) announced Feb 18 as the by- election date for Tanjung Datu. Nomination of candidates will be held on Feb 4, while early voting will take place on Feb 12.
