Traders told to abide by CNY Price Control Scheme
SIBU: Traders are warned against hiking the prices of the 13 items gazetted under the Chinese New Year Price Control Scheme 2017 which has been enforced since yesterday and will end on Feb 3.
Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ( KPDNKK) Sibu branch chief Kasim Mana said stern action would be taken against offenders under the Price Control and Anti- Profiteering Act, 2011.
“It is an offence to sell gazetted items above the maximum prices; an individual upon conviction can be fined up to RM100,000 or sentenced to not more than three years’ jai l or both, or compounded up to RM50,000.
“Companies, on the other hand, can be fined up to RM500,000 or compounded not exceeding RM250,000; our enforcement officers are carrying our regular checks in the market,” Kasim told reporters after officiating at the launching of the festive scheme at Farley Supermarket here yesterday.

Among those present were KPDNKK Sibu branch deputy chief Ganda Ji rap, Farley Supermarket directing manager Lau Eijing and supermarket manager Yeo Soon Teck.
Kasim pointed out that the ceiling prices differed according to each district.
In addition, he cautioned that it is an offence if traders fail to display pink price tags for the gazetted items.
On supply of essential items for the festive celebration, he said major suppliers, wholesalers and retailers had given them assurance that it was sufficient for local consumption.
He also reminded traders to use only approved weighing and measuring instrument.
Meanwhile, the retail prices for these gazetted items under the scheme are live chicken ( RM6.70/ kg), standard chicken ( complete with head, feet, liver and gizzard) at RM8.50/kg, super chicken (without head, feet, liver and gizzard) at RM9.50/kg, Grade A eggs ( RM0.37 each), Grade B eggs ( RM0.36 each), Grade C eggs ( RM0.35 each), imported cabbage ( Indonesia and China excluding Beijing) RM4/ kg, garlic ( China) RM12.50/ kg, whi t e pomf r et ( wei ghing between 200gm and 400gm each) RM38/ kg, large white prawn ( weighing between 41 and 60 each per kg) RM35, pork belly ( RM19/ kg), pork ( lean and fat) at RM18/ kg and live pig (wholesale price only).
