Ex-SMK Riam students urged to form alumni to help school
MIRI: Former students of SMK Riam here have been advised to form an alumni in an effort to help the school achieve greater excellence.
“Now, it is the right time for the school to have its alumni association. Through alumni, it will allow ex-teachers and exstudents to chip in contributions for the school such as by organising activities to further develop the school,” former principal Serina Sauni said when officiating at SMK Riam Taman Tunku’s Reunion Dinner 2000/2005 at a hotel here recently.
“It will not cost much to set up an alumni association for the school. The most important is to make it a reality by first establishing a pro tem committee and have meetings regularly.
“I really treasure the precious experience while serving at the school.
“This school means a lot to me and has made me more mature in my career,” said Serina, who served as principal for five years beginning 2000.
She thanked the teachers and staff members for giving her support in helping to transform the school from zero achievement into what it is today.
“When I took my task as the principal for SMK Riam Taman Tunku, I felt very worried because the school was known for various social problems in those days.
“However with the help from the teachers and staff, we slowly brought hope to the school. The injection of the school new motto of ‘Fly Riam Fly’ had truly given inspiration to the students and helping to make things possible.”
The school eventually managed to list itself among the best 10 secondary schools in the state as well as to win various prestigious awards such Safe School Award, National Resource Centre Award and the Chief Minister’s Award for Principal.
At the reunion dinner, she launched a fund for SMK Riam Taman Tunku.
