Jackie Chan continues with shooting despite injuries

-

JACKIE Chan had continued filming fight sequences for Kung Fu Yoga in Iceland despite his injuries.

Jackie, 62, is known for his reluctance to use stuntmen to fill in for his roles. As a result, he had often been injured on the set while filming jaw- dropping action scenes.

Kung Fu Yoga director Stanley Tong has wanted to cancel a fight sequence between Jackie and Aarif Rahman that was originally scheduled to take place in Iceland. However, Jackie, despite his pain, insisted that the filming continue.

Explained Jackie: “I knew Aarif and his fans would be

(After that) I called home and said, ‘Don’t be scared, but I just had surgery’. If I told them before the surgery, they would worry themselves to death. I’d rather let them know when everything is fine.

disappointed (if the scene was cancelled). Plus, do you know how hard it is to travel to Iceland? It would be a waste for us to all go over and not film it.”

Jackie had to undergo an urgent five-hour operation, after doctors in London discovered that his abdominal muscles were wasting away and his intestines were out of place.

Amazingly, Jackie resumed work the day after the surgery. On arrival in Iceland, he dove into frigid waters after refusing to use a stunt double. Jaws dropped. Aarif, 29, of Arab-Malay-Chinese parentage, had long admired Jackie, and had requested for a chance to rumble against Jackie. Tong agreed.

On his injuries, Jackie said that his family only found out about the operation after it was over. Prior to that, “Only six people knew,” he said.

Kept in his dark were his wife Lin Feng Jiao and son Jaycee Chan.

Added Jackie: “(After that) I called home and said, ‘ Don’t be scared, but I just had surgery’.

“If I told them before the surgery, they would worry themselves to death. I’d rather let them know when everything is fine.”

Kung Fu Yoga begins screening this Friday.
