IMH Academy opens registration for Diploma in Early Childhood Education
KUCHING: IMH Academy – an institution of higher education of under the IMH Group – is introducing its new Diploma in Early Childhood Education, in addition to its current Diploma in Music and Certificate in Music programmes.
This new programme, licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency ( MQA), is designed to accommodate the increasing demand for qualified early childhood educators, seeing that the course is not yet available at many institutions of higher learning here.
The introduction of this course is also taking into account the government’s intention to improve the quality of pre-school education as proposed under the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025.
Under the blueprint, all kindergarten teachers are required to hold at least a diploma qualification in early childhood education by 2020.
Students of Diploma in Early Childhood Education only take a minimum of two years and four months to complete a total of 90 credits in order to obtain the credential.
With a competitive fee structure, students would be able to cover over 30 topics such as ‘Child Psychology’, ‘Child Growth and Development’, ‘Child Nutrition’, ‘Music in Early Childhood’, ‘ School- Parents Partnership’ and ‘ Effective Classroom Management’.
This new course would also equip students with valuable transferable skills such as those related to organisation and management, communication and decision-making.
“Diploma graduates are most sought after by kindergartens and childcare centres – some even operate their own childcare business, become a parent- child consultant at school or pursue a career as a child psychologist,” said a spokesperson from IMH.
The intake for students of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education will be this March.
The minimum entry requirement is a pass in SPM, with at least three credits in any subject.
Interested applicants are requested to fill in the application form at the IMH front office.
They are also advised to bring along a photocopy of their MyKad and those of their parents or legal guardians, four pieces of passport- sized photos, certified-true copies of their SPM certificates and those of other academic qualifications, as well as a registration fee of RM100, which might be waived during the promotional period.
Students of this course are also entitled to apply for study loans under National Higher Education Fund Corporation ( PTPTN) and also IMH Scholarship.
