KUCHING: Eight students of Politeknik Kuching will join 12 counterparts from Toyo University in Japan for a six- day global citizenship programme here early next month.

The ‘GiFT Diversity Voyage in Kuching’ will be conducted by Global Incubation and Fostering Talents ( GiFT) – a non- profit organisation based in Japan that aims to develop the next generation for global citizenship.

The programme will run from Feb 9 to 14.

The participants are expected to take part in team- building activities and experience a diversity walk during the first two days to allow them to explore the beauty of the state capital as well as its historical landmarks.

After this, they will proceed to Kampung Peros in Bau District for the next stage of the programme.

According to Politeknik Kuching lecturer Lim Che Chien, who is also one of the programme’s coordinators, the students will be staying with their respective adoptive families at Kampung Peros.

“Throughout their four- day, three-night stay at the village, the participants will be taking part in activities where they will have the opportunity to learn about the diverse local cultures and also to experience the lifestyle in a traditional village.

“Local community leaders including Pemancas, Penghulus and the principal of SMK Bau have been invited to present talks during the workshop, group discussion and knowledgesharing sessions themed ‘City of Unity’,” Lim said.

Sixty- one students from Politeknik Kuching have taken part in the GiFT programme since its introduction in 2014.
