Don’t bring unhealthy culture to Bentong — Liow

-

BENTONG: People who choose Bentong as their tourism or recreation destination are reminded not to bring unhealthy culture that is in conflict with the local culture.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bentong, said the local residents welcomed visitors to the district but would not tolerate improper behaviour.

“We want immediate action from the police. This is unhealthy culture brought to Bentong. Such behaviour should not be allowed, as we are a multicultural and multireligious country.

“We cannot get carried away by unhealthy western culture,” he said after handing out a contribution of RM500,000 to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Khai Mun Pagi, here, yesterday.

Liow was referring to last Saturday’s case of 39 participants of a motivational camp at a resort, here, who played a game called ‘All Out’ in the nude at the playground there.

Bentong district police chief, Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohamad Nor Monday confirmed that all of those involved were released on police bail on Sunday evening and the investigation papers were expected to be handed over to the Public Procecutor’s Office this week.

Liow said besides being immoral and against the religious norm, their action could also tarnish the image of Bentong as a suitable holiday destination for families and people of all ages.

Earlier, in his speech, Liow reminded on the need for schools’ management, parent-teacher associations and education offices to establish good ties and strive to improve the schools’ infrastructure for the benefit of the students.

He said this included providing computers to enable students not only to be IT- savvy, but also to do reference and revision work, and to receive online tuition. — Bernama
