Serian swim body ‘facing resistance’ from Asas

-

KUCHING: Serian Amateur Swimming Association (Serians), formed a year ago, said it “is facing resistance” from the Sarawak Amateur Swimming Association ( Asas) over the registration of swimmers in the upcoming state age- group championship ( SAG 2017).

In a press statement released yesterday, Serians commended thei r swimmer s for thei r performances at last weekend’s 2 8 t h Kuchi ng Age Group Swimming Championship (KAG). They captured 33 gold medals and broke five of the 10 new records at the meet.

“Despite the stellar performance and record- breaking results,” Serians said that “parents and swimmers have been informed that registration by Serians swimmers will not be accepted, effectively barring them” from SAG 2017.

The statement added that the association and parents believe that swimmers must be given every available opportunity to compete in swimming competitions to excel in the sport. They are now “asking Asas to reconsider its decision. ( They) are also appealing to Minister of Sport, Sport Ministry and Sport Council to look into the predicament and resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the association has started its 2017 development prog ramme and welcome any enquiry from interested swimmers. It expressed the hope that “registration with Asas will be approved as soon as possible so that we can contribute positively to the aquatic sport development of Sarawak.”
