The Link Road connecting Dunuk and Plaman Rayang in upper Padawan, which was affected by a landslide, has been repaired with the construction of a bailey bridge.

According to Datuk Detta Samen, who is a special officer to Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit, the bailey bridge was built as a temporary measure to solve the problem.

He said the landslide affecting about 50 metres of the road occurred on Sunday morning ( about 3am) affecting several villages in the area and also damaged the water pipe to the villages.

“I thank the Public Works Department (JKR) Serian and CMS for taking prompt action to solve the problem by constructing the bailey bridge,” he said when met at the scene, adding that he was informed by a village chief from one of the affected villages.

Detta said a similar problem had happened on that stretch of the road in the past, adding that the recurrence was due to the heavy rainfall for the past few days.

Meanwhile, Tebedu district officer Raymond Achen said the bailey bridge was built to provide a temporary route to the affected villages, and to enable ground study and work.

“I was made to understand from JKR Serian that construction of a bailey bridge is more convenient than a diversion route,” he pointed out.

Describing the damage as quite serious, he said more ground work needed to be carried out because of a damaged underground culvert.

Among the affected villages are Kampung Senah Rayang, Rudan, Stabut, Plaman Dunuk, Bukit Nanas and Semeru.
