Police yesterday morning arrested a 17-year- old boy for allegedly raping a 12-year- old girl.

The alleged rape reportedly occurred in the bush at Canada Hill on Sunday night.

City deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, when contacted yesterday, confirmed the arrest.

“The suspect, an Indonesian, is currently detained under police custody at Miri Central Police Station ( CPS) for questioning,” said Stanley.

It is learnt that the suspect was apprehended at around 10am yesterday by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department ( CID) following a report lodged by the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, the girl is currently warded at Miri hospital for a medical check-up.

Earlier, the girl’s aunt was curious when seeing her clothes covered with blood stains when the girl arrived home at around 1am yesterday.

The girl’s failure in answering her question about the blood stains raised the aunt’s concern, prompting her to bring the girl to the police station to file a report.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

This alleged rape is the second reported this month. The first involved a mentally- challenged girl aged 24.
