KCGCCI hopes for prosperity in new year

KUCHING: The Chinese community here is optimistic that commerce and industry will prosper for them in the Year of the Rooster and under new Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCGCCI) vice-president Tan Jit Kee believes that Abang Johari has his own agenda to help the Chinese commerce and industry players in the state.

He said Abang Johari is known to have a close relationsh­ip with the Chinese community in the state, long before he became Chief Minister and he understand­s the needs of the Sarawakian business community, not just for the Chinese but all Sarawakian­s.

“Sarawak’s commerce and industry as a whole will see a new and exciting direction under him (Abang Johari). Although he is still new (as Chief Minister), he has proven throughout the years that he can work with all the communitie­s in the state,” Tan said.

He also mentioned that Abang Johari never hesitated whenever the Chinese community came to him to ask for help.

Thus, Tan expects the Kuching Chinese community to be optimistic and anticipate great things for commerce and industry in the Year of the Rooster.

Meanwhile, Philip Lee who is a KCGCCI general committee member, called on the Chinese community to be optimistic in the new year and to support Abang Johari as he steers Sarawak to greater heights.

Thiswasbec­ausetheSar­awakian Chinese business community has always been supportive of the government regardless of who is the Chief Minister.

“We are confident that we will enjoy great developmen­t during Abang Johari’s tenure as Chief Minister. He has what it takes to take care good care of the people here in the state,” he said.

For the year 2017, KCGCCI is looking forward to organising more activities related to commerce and industry in order to foster ties not only between its members but with communitie­s outside of Kuching as well.

Both Tan and Lee spoke to The Borneo Post during Abang Johari’s Chinese New Year visit to Tan’s house at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee on Sunday..

Also present during the visit were Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Developmen­t Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Abang Johari’s wife Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang and other KCGCCI members.
