Retiree complains of blocked entry to his residence despite a yellow box

-

KUCHING: A retired civil servant and his family living at Lorong 1G1, Jalan Seladah here have been living in anxiety for the past two months due to his neighbour’s constant parking in front of his gate and blocking entry to his house.

According to the retiree who preferred to be addressed by his surname Gan, 65, his neighbour and his family, believed to be foreigners, had constantly park two cars in front of his gate every day, causing difficulty for him and his family members to drive their vehicles to their corner double-storey terraced house.

“I have been having high blood pressure ever since my foreign neighbours moved in about two months ago. The husband would park two of their vehicles in front of my gate making it very difficult for us to drive out from our house as well as to enter our house,” Gan related to The Borneo Post at his house yesterday.

He added that he had been suffering from anxiety and having sleepless nights as his neighbours had made an extension to their house right up to the fence.

“For the past two months, I can’t have proper sleep, always thinking that some bad hats might just climb over the extended roof of my neighbour’s house and come over to my house and harm us.”

Gan said his main contention was two-fold. Firstly, he wanted the relevant authorities to assist him in advising his foreign neighbour not to park his vehicles and block his entrance as the Fire and Rescue Services Department had already drawn a yellow box there to prevent indiscriminate parking.

“That house could only accommodate one vehicle. So my neighbour would park two of his vehicles on the yellow box with two fire hydrants located inside the yellow box as well. If there are vehicles being constantly parked there, it would make driving to and out of my house a nightmare for us,” he said

Gan said he had, on various occasions, talked to his neighbour and advised him not to park his vehicles on the yellow box, but the advice was always ignored.

“I just wonder, how a foreigner can act with impunity in this country where there are clearly laws put in place to ensure public wellbeing and safety. I am a citizen of this country and if this kind of thing can happen to me, it can also happen to anybody else. This kind of thing ought to be stopped.”

Gan said besides lodging his complaints to MBKS, he had also made his complaints to the police, Fire and Rescue Dept as well as Road Transport Department but so far, no action seemed to have been taken against his neighbour.

Secondly, he wanted the relevant authorities to demolish the illegal extension of the neighbour’s house for safety reasons.

Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday, an official from MBKS said they would take the necessary action in due time.
