Failure to comply with festive price control scheme: RM2,218 goods seized

KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co- Operatives andConsumerism(KPDNKK)have so far seized various controlled items worth RM2,218 from traders for flouting the Chinese New Year ( CNY) price control scheme (Jan 23 to Feb 3).

KPDNKK state deputy director Abdul Hafidz Abdul Rahim revealed that the cases were recorded in Kuching (1), Sibu ( 2), Limbang (1), Bintulu ( 2) and Mukah (2).

“We have also issued compounds totalling RM1,100 in relation to the eight cases,” said Hafidz to the Borneo Post yesterday.

Hafidz said that seven of the cases were related to traders who failed to display pink price tags for controlled items and one case for failure to put up price tags.

He added that checks were conducted on 1,149 premises throughout the state — Kuching ( 226), Sibu (145), Miri (161), Limbang ( 80), Bintulu (77), Sri Aman (96), Kapit (65), Sarikei (143) and Mukah (156).

Meanwhile, KPDNKK deputy minister Dato Henry Sum Agong during a working visit to one of the market in Kuching revealed that the CNY price control scheme was carried out five days prior and six days after the festival.

He also disclosed that 13 items have been gazetted under the price control schemes namely live chicken; standard chicken, super chicken; Grade A, B and C chicken eggs; imported round cabbage ( Indonesia and China, excluding Beijing cabbage), garlic ( China), white pomfret, large prawns and pork.
