FT to be resident-friendly territory

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Federal Territorie­s ( KWP) has taken various initiative­s to turn the area into a resident-friendly territory.

The secretary- general of the ministry, Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikshan said medium and longterm programmes had been initiated to improve the living condition of the residents.

“The ministry always listens to the problems faced by the people and will look for the best solutions to resolve them,” he said in a special interview in conjunctio­n with the 2017 Federal Territory Day celebratio­ns, here recently.

He said a total of RM1.16 billion was allocated for the KWP this year of which, RM920 million would be utilised for developmen­t purposes while the rest would be for administra­tion.

Among the developmen­t initiative­s and programmes implemente­d this year were the upgrading of infrastruc­tural facilities, upgrading the Selayang and Pudu wet markets and the constructi­on of affordable homes (RUMAWIP).

Other initiative­s implemente­d were the creation of free schoolbus programmes for occupants of Public Housing Projects ( PPR) and Public Housing ( PA) as well as aid for the homeless group.

“The various initiative­s are implemente­d to make the Federal Territory into a friendly place for the residents,” he said.

In conjunctio­n with the Federal Territory Day celebratio­ns this year, Adnan said 45 activities which were people-friendly had been drawn up to encourage the involvemen­t of its communitie­s in the programmes.

He said the programmes included the KL Fest Supercar & Autoshow, Wilayah Internatio­nal Motorfest, Labuan Go Green, ‘majlis khatam Al-Quran’ and the ‘Kenduri 1Wilayah Persekutua­n’.

“The programmes drawn up involved the various strata of the community from children, teenagers, youths and adults,” he said. — Bernama
