Rapist stepfather gets more jail time, caning
KUCHING: A 54-year- old civil servant – who raped his teen stepdaughter multiple times – was yesterday sentenced to 18 years in jail and five strokes of the rotan for one charge.
This brought his total sentence for the same offence to 78 years in prison and 35 strokes of the rotan.
Judge Dayang Ellyn Narissa Abang Ahmad ordered for the custodial sentence to take effect consecutively with his earlier punishment.
Dayang Ellyn also gave him a lengthy tongue-lashing as earlier he kept changing his pleas when three charges were read to him, angering the judge.
In the end he only admitted to the third charge framed against him, claiming he was confused about the first and second charges as he could not remember the dates of the incidents.
The court therefore fixed Feb 16 for case management of the two charges to which he claimed trial.
Last week, he was sentenced to a total of 60 years in prison and 30 strokes of the rotan after being convicted under Section 376B (1) of the Penal Code on his own guilty plea to three charges in another Sessions Court.
He faces one more similar charge in another Sessions Court here, which has fixed sentencing on Feb 13.
The case came to light after the victim’s sister saw the accused touch the victim’s private part.
The accused was unrepresented while DPP Haresh Prakash prosecuted the case.
