Only winnable candidate for Tanjong Datu polls — Dr Rundi

-

BINTULU: The state Barisan Nasional (BN) will field a winnable candidate for the Tanjong Datu by- election, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) secretary- general Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi

“The candidate must also be favoured by the local people. And the candidate is chosen based on feedback from the local people and also based on analysis of the relevant agencies,” he said.

He said that Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Open would announce the candidate today (Feb 1).

Dr Rundi added that the PBB Tanjong Datu branch committee would convene a meeting at 2pm today ( Feb 1) before meeting the chief minister around 3pm.

“Your guess is as good as mine, lots of hints in the newspapers, names have been proposed but we let the chief minister to make the announcement,” said Dr Rundi when met yesterday.

He said the BN election machinery headed by Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar had been activated and was well prepared for the by- election.

“Although we are confident of winning the seat, it is still a fight and each fight needs detailed and thorough preparations. We are raring to go,” he added.

He added that they were not afraid of anyone wanting to contest in the seat although PKR and PAS had announced that they would not field any candidate.

“There is a high possibility that there will be no contest but we have to be prepared,” he said.

The by- election is necessitated following the passing of Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem on Jan 11.

The dates of nomination and polling are Feb 4 and 18 respectively.

In the last state election, Adenan won the seat with a 6,360-vote majority over PKR’s Jazolkipli Numan, who obtained 468 votes.
