Willie Mongin willing to let go aspiration to be PKR candidate

-

KUCHING: One of PKR’s aspiring candidates, Willie Mongin, will respect the decision of the opposition coalition’s leadership on seat allocation for the 14th general election.

This is because he believes the ideal way of fighting Barisan Nasional ( BN) is to have up a straight fi ght in every constituency.

“What is more important is for us to have a clear goal.

“To realise the people’s desire to change the federal government, cooperation among all the opposition parties, especially the bigger ones, is very much needed,” he said.

Willie said he would have no qualms of letting go his intention to contest in Puncak Borneo if the seat is not given to PKR.

However, he also wants DAP to do the same if the seat is given to PKR.

“It’s very important that everyone in PKR and DAP rally behind each other even if the decision of the leadership on seat allocation is not favourable to them,” he said.

He made these comments when asked about Sarawak Democratic Action Party ( DAP) chief Chong Chieng Jen’s statement that DAP and PKR would jointly make an announcement on seat allocation for the 14th general election.

Willie, who is a member of PKR’s state leadership council, also believes that it would be better if all opposition parties can unite in one coalition.

He said for now he would continue to move around in Puncak Borneo.

“In fact, I have been moving around since last year, visiting the various places every week.

“But like I have said, I will respect whatever decision made by the coalition’s leadership,” he reiterated.

Meanwhile, talks on the ground seem to suggest that DAP has been ‘quiet’ in Puncak Borneo since the last state election.

In the last state election DAP’s Sanjan Daik and PKR’s Willie clashed in Mambong against BN, splitting the opposition’s votes.

This allowed BN’s direct candidate Datuk Dr Jerip Susil to win the seat comfortably.
