-

KUCHING: Sarawak Convention Bureau ( SCB) kicks off its first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of the year by sponsoring RM10,500 towards Kuching Run for Autism 2017, an event organised by Kuching Autistic Association ( KAA).

The run, which is divided into 3km and 7km non-competitive run, encourages conference owners to back good causes in Sarawak.

It is scheduled to take place on April 2 in conjunction with World Autism Day.

KAA, SCB and the National Autism Society of Malaysia ( Nasom) have been collaborating to raise awareness of autism in Sarawak, to boost resources and support.

In a press statement yesterday, SCB Marketing and Sales manager Amelia Roziman said: “CSR initiatives provide the ideal platform in driving engagement across all levels, especially in the Business Events sector as the convention community has the power to make significant changes to the local community through such initiatives.”

Organising chairperson Cynthia Jee also explained the objective of this year’s autism run by stating: “In 2016, we were able to generate public awareness on the autism spectrum disorder awareness. For the second edition of the Autism Run, we are striving to create acceptance of both autistic children and adults among their peers, family and the community at large.”

For more information on the run, the public can contact Cynthia at 012- 8913661 or visit Kuching Autistic Association Resource and Education Centre on Facebook.

SCB was established in 2006 by the state government as a nonprofit organisation which aimed at making Sarawak a competitive destination for international meetings.

The Bureau is a member of the International Congress and Convention Association ( ICCA) with the goal to help connect NGOs, corporations and government bodies in making international conventions a success in Sarawak.
