PBB to strengthen role of Squad Sayang
MIRI: The Women’s wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) wants to enhance the role of its Squad Sayang by building more strategic cooperation with various government departments and agencies.
Its deputy chief Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said such commitment would help to intensify the party’s existing effort to fight for the people’s interests and welfare at the grassroots level more effectively.
“Formed in 2014, Squad Sayang is actually part of the PBB machinery under the education and welfare bureau and the party’s women supreme council.
“Squad Sayang is playing a role as frontliners to assist the people in their respective area, thus helping to dispel allegations that the presence of political parties can only be felt during elections,” she said when launching Squad Sayang Telang Usan here yesterday.
Squad Sayang is playing a role as frontliners to assist the people in their respective area, thus helping to dispel allegations that the presence of political parties can only be felt during elections.
Apart from playing roles to assist the welfare, education and social matters of the targeted people by way of welfare activities, Fatimah, who is also Minister Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, said Squad Sayang also served as a centre to channel information to the people at grassroots level in areas of education, economy, social and welfare by organising community activities.
“We are now working closely with Ministry of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, state Women and Family Department, Welfare Department, National Registration Department and state Education Department.
“We are also looking forward to working with Health Department and Fire and Rescue Department by organising community activities such as health awareness programme or safety programme to create better awareness on ways to prevent fire at residential areas and villages.”
She added there was no need to form another committee in Squad Sayang as its members were also existing members of the party from each constituency.
She welcomed other BN component parties to join any activities conducted by Squad Sayang to ensure that services provided by the squad could be delivered to the needy people accordingly.
On the launch of Squad Sayang Telang Usan, she wanted women members in the constituency to continue with the welfare efforts that they had been implementing in the area.
Telang Usan, with its wide area, Fatimah said was still lacking in infrastructure development which posed tough challenge for the squad to traverse due to the high cost of transportation.
For a start, she announced a Minor Rural Project ( MRP) grant of RM3,000 as ‘activity fund’ for Squad Sayang Telang Usan.
A political secretary to chief minister Charles Balan Seling, PBB Telang Usan Women chief councillor Margaret Unding Nawan, Sarawak Federation Women Institute ( SFWI) advisor Datuk Ursula Goh and Temenggong Elizabeth Deng were also present at the launching ceremony.
