MIRI: More than 6,800 runners are expected at the fifth edition of Colour Rush to be held in Kuching and Miri on Feb 18 and 19, respectively.

Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) president Jocelyn Hee when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday revealed that they were grateful for the public support.

“In Miri alone, 3,600 forms have been submitted to us while in Kuching, 3,220 forms have been submitted to SCCS headquarters. We may look at last minute participation but as some of the Tshirt sizes are out of stock, we may not accept registrations after the closing date of Feb 5,” said Hee.

The r u n ne r s c ompr i s e individuals and more corporate companies, schools and private firms this year.

“We are delighted that more of them had signed up to support our cause,” she said.

Colour Rush Ru n i s an awareness campaign of Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) to commemorate International Childhood Cancer Day, which falls in February.

The campaign with an annual registration exceeding 5,000 runners statewide spreads the message of battling childhood cancer through a 5 km run.

The Kuching leg will be flagged off at Pustaka Negeri at 4.30pm on Feb 18, while the Miri leg at Boulevard Shopping Mall parking lot at 6.30am on Feb 19.

Hee said coloured powder was not used in last year’s event but they would revive the tradition as it had become a symbol of the event.

“Runners will splash one another with fistfuls of coloured powder and after everyone is covered from head-to-toe in various colours, the run will commence,” she said.

Colour Rush Run is focusing on raising awareness in the young and old of the importance of having understanding and empathy towards children with cancer, and that moral support is vital to help children outrun cancer.
