IWC receives RM2,845 for AccuVein project

-

MIRI: The charity project by Inner Wheel Club ( IWC) to buy a medical device - Accuvein Vein Visualisation System (AccuVein) for the Kidney Dialysis Centre ( KDC) here was given a further boost yesterday.

Miri’s oldest club, Gymkhana Club Miri ( GCM) yesterday handed over RM2,845.15 towards the project. The money was from public donations collected during GCM’s Christmas Concert last year.

GCM honorary secretary Richard Soo handed over the cheque to IWC Miri president Trinnah Estiva. Among those present were GCM manager Murugaya Veloo and organising committee members, Valentine Hellyiza and Florence Enau.

Soo thanked the public for their generosity, performers and all those involved in making the charity concert a success.

“A special thanks also goes to Assistant Minister for Land and Air Transportation and Safety Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also KDC chairman, who personally sponsored an AccuVein unit costing over RM19,000.

GCM is glad to play an important role in this charity event, which is one of the club’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) project,” he told the Borneo Post after giving the donation.

Trinnah said with this latest donation and also the upcoming charity band jamming at Barthyme Music Café and Bistro here this Sunday (Feb 5), the club is confident of raising enough money for the second AccuVein set.

“Our club is thankful for the strong public support to buy two sets of AccuVein for KDC. Once acquired, kidney patients in the centre requiring vein scanning need not go outside Miri for such service,” said Trinnah.

Currently patients requiring such service have to go to hospitals in Kuching, Kota Kinabalu or Kuala Lumpur.

She said besides saving time and cost for patients, the incorporation of AccuVein in dialysis treatment can lead to higher first attempt success rate, which results in lower costs/procedures, increased staff productivity and more timely treatment/diagnosis.

Trinnah, who is also a stage five dialysis patient, is among 17 out of the over 300 patients at KDC requiring treatment for their damaged veins. Each patient requires three to four dialysis sessions per week.

Anotherlocalband,SayHello, has confirmed its participation with 12 others local and international bands for the upcoming charity music showcase.

Trinnah urged members of the public to support the event, adding that 10 per cent of the sales will go to the charity project.
