Be willing to change to get the young interested – Yong
KUCHING: It is crucial for associations to change for the better to inculcate a sense of innovation and creativity in its operation.
Former Deputy Works Minister and Chinese community leader Datuk Yong Khoon Seng said orgnisations willing to change can encourage the younger generation to join them.
“I hope the association will continue to work hard and strive for greater achievements for the well- being of members and society,” he said before officiating at Sarawak Hopoh Association’s Chinese New Year gathering held at the association’s office and service centre in the city here yesterday.
“Over the years, with the support and help from past and present leaders and members, Hopoh Association has reached a milestone in development to become a strong organisation,” he added.
He hoped that the association will continue to work hard and strive for greater achievements for the well-being of all members and society.
Yong said Chinese New Year is the best time to renew and enhance family ties and spend quality time together.
Later, Yong and the guests were invited to eat the Hakka signature dish of ‘ Lei Cha’ before distributing ‘angpows’.
Among those at the gathering were Consulate General of The People’s Republic of China, Fu Jijun; Sarawak Hopoh Association chairman Chang Thian Pau; and former deputy State police commissioner SAC Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung.
