BINTULU: Two contracts worth more than RM6-million were signed between Bintulu Development Authority ( BDA) and Kemena Holdings Sdn Bhd and Binacon Enterprise at Wisma Bintulu yesterday.

BDA general manager Rodziah Morshidi said these deals were part of BDA’s initiative to improve the infrastructure and also wellbeing of the people.

She said the first contract worth RM4,275,964.50 was for the proposed phase two drainage improvement works at Sungai Plan Resettlement Scheme in Tanjung Kidurong.

The 12-month contract work, to be undertaken by Kemena Holding Sdn Bhd, is scheduled to commence on Feb 7.

“The scope of work includes earthworks, drainage works, culverts, cross- over, turfing and piling,” she said after signing the contract documents on behalf of BDA.

Kemena Holding Sdn Bhd was represented by its director Hii Wei Ling and project manager Hii Tau Lee.

“This is a critical project for the people in Bintulu,” said Rodziah, adding that once completed the project could prevent flash floods in the affected area.

Meanwhile, the second contract inked was for the proposed signalised junction at Jalan Rakawi Yusuf / Jalan Sultan Iskandar worth RM2,680,448.50 with Binacon Enterprise.

Rodziah said Binacon was appointed to carry out the project within an 8-month period. The scope of work includes road works, drainage, installation of traffic light system, and relocation of existing services (communication, electrical and lamp posts).

“This will allow vehicles exiting Jalan Rakawi Yusuf to make a right turn at the t-junction and access the opposite lane into Jalan Sultan Iskandar and vice versa,” she explained.

Currently vehicles exiting Jalan Rakawi Yusuf can only make a left turn and follow the traffic flow along Jalan Sultan Iskandar.

Representing Binacon Enterprise was its manager Tang Ai Hieng and project manager David Hwong.

Among those present were Bintulu Resident Muhamad Yakup Kari, BDA deputy general manager Mohd Bohari Kipli, BDA secretary Siti Aishah Othman and BDA assistant general manager ( Environment Section) Wan Ibrahim Wan Ali.
