KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Technology Development Corp ( MTDC) plans to send between eight and 10 Malaysian undergraduates to pursue entrepreneurship courses at South Korea’s Kyunpook National University’s LNC Center.

The initiative is supported by the Asian Science Park Association, an international non-governmental organisation established in Japan in 1997, for the purpose of joint development in the fields of scientific technology, industry and economy in the Asian region.

MTDC chief executive officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus said the students would be selected from the agency’s partner universities, namely University Putra Malaysia, University Keba n g s a an Mal ays i a , University Technology Malaysia and University Technology Mara.

“The students from university startups will receive mentoring on direct business development as well as sales and marketing assistance over two weeks.

“The first intake is in July 2017,” he told reporters at the Global Industry Academia Cooperation Symposium yesterday.

A memo r a n d um of understanding ( MoU) was inked between MTDC with Kyunpook National University LNC Center and Asian Science Park Association during the one- day symposium.

The MoU serves as a platform for the exchange of knowledge, experience and programmes between the two countries, Norhalim said.

He said under the first phase, MTDC had received South Korean students to Malaysia.

The Malaysians go to South Korea in the second phase.

“The collaboration will also cover activities and initiatives to support a strong and productive global industry- academia cooperation.

“The collaboration between Malaysia and South Korea would include potential technology t rans fer and bus ine s s collaboration,” he added.

Apart from the Global Internship Programme, MTDC will also undertake a KL Contact Centre to be situated at the UPMMTDC Technology Incubation Center III, at the University Putra Malaysia in Serdang.

The centre will provide an avenue for recipient companies in MTDC’s ecosystem to do business matching and collaboration with its South Korean counterpart. — Bernama
