LUNDU: Lundu Hospital has been identified as a top priority hospital to be rebuilt in the state, says Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He also identified Sri Aman, Bau and Lawas hospitals that needed urgent attention from the federal government.

“We are left far behind when compared to Peninsular Malaysia. We will continue to fight for the renovations of some of the old hospitals in the state and Lundu Hospital is definitely one of them,” Dr Sim told the media during his walkabout in Lundu yesterday.

He said urgent attention was needed for Lundu Hospital which was built in 1965 as the building was deteriorating.

On a related issue, Dr Sim said the upgrading of Sarawak General Hospital ( SGH) was also needed due to the increasing number of patients.

He said the upgrading work would include the long outstanding car park, eight operation theatres,

four lifts and an additional 80 beds.

During the walkabout, Dr Sim who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, said the people would definitely benefit if Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidate won the by- election, ‘as only BN is capable of bringing more development to the district’.

Azizul Adenan the son of the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem the former chief minister and Tanjong Datu incumbent and other SUPP members were among those who accompanied Dr Sim during the walkabout.

“As a BN component party, we in SUPP are going around Lundu to meet the people and to urge them to support the BN candidate Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, who is Azizul’s mother, today. Adenan’s legacy in Lundu must continue,” said Dr Sim.

During the walkabout, Dr Sim took time to speak to the locals before fielding questions from members of the media.

The Tanjong Datu by- election will be held on Feb 18 following the demise of Adenan on Jan11. Jamilah has been picked as the BN candidate to contest in the byelection.

Adenan has been successful in defending the seat since 2006.

Meanwhile, Azizul said besides helping the BN machinery, his family was also using the social media to reach out to the voters.

His mother Jamilah is not able to join in the campaign as she is still observing the 130- day mourning period after the death of her husband.
