PBB working to achieve bigger win in Tg Datu

-

LUNDU: The PBB machinery for the Tanjong Datu by- election now focuses on how best to get a much bigger victory margin, disclosed PBB deputy director of operations for the by- election Cr Abu Seman Karim.

He likened the strategy adopted by his party and the BN to the one used by the army in its warfare tactic ‘ Ilmu Medan Perang’, whereby they will try to understand the strength and weakness of their enemy.

“We have actually mobilised our machinery but we have to be careful as we want to understand who we are up against. Once we know their tactics, then we will go all out to demoralise and finish them in order to get the maximum results,” Abu Seman told The Borneo Post here yesterday.

The former army corporal and army trainer admitted that the two-week campaign was rather too long for a by- election.

“So we have to strategise ourselves and manage our resources properly so that we don’t get overworked. And by next week, we will go all- out with our campaign,” he stressed.

He said their main focus this time would be to better the results achieved in the last state election when the incumbent and late chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem obtained more than 90 per cent of the votes cast to beat his PKR opponent Jazolkipli Numan by a majority of 5,892 votes. He polled 6,360 votes against Jozolfipli’s 468 votes.

“If possible we want to get 99.9 per cent of the votes in this byelection so that we can give his widow and BN candidate Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu the best present to continue her husband’s legacy here and to further develop our area,” he said.

Tanjong Datu has a total of 9,957 registered voters with Malays as the majority with 5,498 voters; followed by Ibans with 1,763 voters; Chinese (1,646 voters) and Bidayuhs (1,050 voters).

Tanjong Datu has 15 polling stations, namely: Telok Melano, Sematan, Lundu, Bajo, Sampadi, Pueh, Seling, Perigi, Sebemban, Stoh, Sebat, Stunggang, Sekambal, Rambungan and Temelan.

Meanwhile, STAR candidate Johnny Aput said he had started his door-to- door campaign and would go all out by this weekend.

“We try our best to deny BN a landslide victory,” he said.

Johnny stressed that there was no way he would cooperate with the PBDS Baru candidate to outdo the BN machinery.

“We can’t cooperate with PBDS Baru as we have different political aspirations,” said Johnny.

Polling has been set for Feb 18, and early voting is on Feb 12. Besides STAR, Jamilah is also facing PBDS Baru’s candidate Rapelson Richard Hamit.
