-

MIRI: Diabetes Malaysia Miri branch is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year which will be marked by several activities this Feb 26 at Bintang Megamall.

It was formed on March 21, 1992.

Its chairman Ting Chiew Moi, in a press conference yesterday, said the one- day event would include colouring contest, health talk, exhibitions and health screening as well as a counselling session.

“On the same day, an annual general meeting will be held at Meritz Hotel whereby its members as well as those from Diabetes Malaysia Kuala Lumpur will be joining us for discussion,” said Ting.

He said Miri Hospital and the Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) will put up informative displays to educate the public on their roles.

“The highlight of the event is karaoke session and performance by a singer specially invited from Peninsula Malaysia,” he added.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting will attend the opening ceremony at 11am while Assistant Minister for Land and Air Transportation and Safety Datuk Lee Kim Shin officiate at the closing ceremony of the event at 6.30pm.

He urged members of the public to come and get a health check-up at the event.

“Previously, we only managed to open two hours of health screening for the public. This time, we will open it from 10am onwards and it will be open the whole day. As it is free of charge, there is no reason for those concerned about their health not to come and have their health checked.

“After all, I am sure that many may start to worry about their blood sugar after consuming so much sugary food during the festivity,” she said.

The colouring contest is divided into two categories: Category 1 for children aged seven to nine years and Category 2 for children aged 10 to 12 years.

Those interested can contact Bintang Megamall event manager Allen Wong at 012- 640 3690. All they need to do is WhatsApp their details: name, date of birth and contact number to Wong to confirm their participation.
