Cuepacs Sarawak pledges solid support for Abang Johari’s administration

-

MIRI: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak fully supports the administration of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg.

Cuepacs Sarawak secretary Omar Bahrein Unin said the appointment of Abang Johari as the state’s sixth chief minister would continue to boost the development and prosperity of Sarawak and her people.

“We are confident that Datuk Amar Abang Johari will continue the legacy of Tok Nan ( Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem), who was very conscious about the services for and welfare of the people,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Omar said Sarawak Cuepacs had always maintained a very good relationship with the state government, especially on matters involving the civil servants here.

He recalled a courtesy call made on Adenan last year, where they discussed a number of issues related to the welfare and wellbeing of civil servants in the state.

“Cuepacs is confident that our present chief minister will continue to maintain this good relationship. In fact, he is very familiar with the Sarawak civil service because he often attends events organised by government departments and agencies,” he said.

Omar viewed Abang Johari as a leader with extensive experience in politics, having served in various capacities which enabled him to understand the roles and duties of those under the service.

Nevertheless, Omar also hoped that the good relationship between the state government and the civil service would continue, especially in addressing issues affecting many civil servants such as the escalating cost of living, housing, government quarters, and public service allowances.

At present, there are 13 local unions affiliated with Cuepacs Sarawak including Sarawak Teachers’ Union, as well as those under the Health Department, Agriculture Department, Public Works Department (JKR) and local councils.
