Be well-informed when serving people, community leaders told

-

SRI AMAN: Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat urged longhouse chiefs and community leaders to be knowledgeable in order to serve the people in their respective areas better.

He said this would improve the standard of living of the people under their administration especially at the grassroots level, adding that appointed leaders must be dedicated, responsible and trustworthy in carrying out their duties.

In turn, their knowledge and dedication would enable the development agenda introduced by the government to be implemented in a smooth manner to benefit the people.

“Leaders should also work closely with the people to come out with the best solution in addressing issues and problems.

“They must also be aware of problems and practise transparency, failing which, would bring about negative impact which would be a burden to themselves and the people,” he said during a meet-the-people session at Rumah Encharang, Batu Tembang, Lingga near here yesterday.

Masir, who is also Sri Aman MP, called for community leaders to foster ties with various government agencies and to utilise existing facilities introduced by these agencies to address problems in their respective areas.

“They should not be afraid when confronting government agencies to seek assistance. The government agencies are established to ease the people’s burden; therefore, the leaders must understand how to utilise their services,” he added.

Among those present at the session were Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang and local community leaders.
